WORCESTER, Mass. – Brett Pullman posted his third-consecutive game with more than 300 passing yards, but the Bentley football team lost at Assumption, 16-13, Saturday afternoon.
Pullman totaled 348 yards on 25 completions. He and
Rashon Bradford connected for a 74-yard touchdown play late in the second quarter, giving Bentley a 13-3 lead heading into halftime. It was Bradford's third touchdown catch from Pullman this season that went for 70+ yards. Â
However, that big play wound up being the Falcons' final points of the game.
Bentley's first possession of the second half was a bad omen. The Falcons had fourth-and-one at midfield, but a false start penalty forced Bentley to punt. The Falcons went three-and-out in their following possession, and they got the ball back after the Bentley defense held Assumption to a field goal.
Bentley held a 13-6 lead when it was driving down the field late in the third quarter. The biggest play of the drive was a 33-yard completion from Pullman to Bradford. The drive stalled at Assumption's 20-yard line, as the Falcons lined up for a 37-yard field goal attempt.
The kick was blocked. And to make matters worse for Bentley, the blocked kick was returned 70 yards for a touchdown. All of a sudden the game was tied, 13-13.
A 31-yard field goal make early in the fourth quarter stood as the winning points for Assumption.
Bradford finished the game with seven catches for 170 yards. It was his second game this season with more than 150 receiving yards, and his fifth with at least seven catches.
Vinnie Holmes returned to action for Bentley. He ran for 41 yards and reached the end zone with a three-yard rush late in the first quarter.
Tommy DeMatteo had a team-high seven tackles for Bentley, and
Isaiah Gomes recorded a sack.
The Falcons return home to host American International, Oct. 19, for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
