Bentley Scores Three Times in 3rd Period but Falls to No. 14 UMass 5-4 in Opener

Waltham, Mass. – Bentley scored three goals in third period but fell just short to No. 14 UMass by a 5-4 score in the season opener on Saturday night.

Bentley trailed 5-1 entering the 3rd period and cut the deficit to 5-2 on a goal by Ryan Mansfield at the 2:19 mark after he jammed in the rebound off a shot by Peter Kramer.

It stayed a 5-2 game until the final minute. With 48 seconds remaining Nick Bochen scored his second of the night, assisted by AJ Hodges.

Bentley then went on the power play with 36 seconds remaining and sent on the extra attacker for the six-on-four advantage.

The goal came with nine seconds remaining from A.J. Hodges with a shot from along the boards to make it a 5-4 game.

UMass though won the ensuing faceoff and was able to run out the remaining time to hang on for the victory.

UMass scored the game's first goal off the stick of Aydar Suniev 5:38 into the game.

Bentley tied it at 2:12 of the 2nd period on Bochen's first goal of the night, but the Minutemen scored four unanswered the rest of the period.

The Falcons will next be in action Sunday at 4:00 pm when they host UMass Lowell in an exhibition game.
