WALTHAM, Mass. – Adelphi University junior guard Dayshaun Walton (Albany, N.Y.), a first-team All-Conference honoree a year ago, knocked down three three-pointers and finished with 18 points, five rebounds and four assists as Adelphi University edged Bentley University, 76-71, in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball Wednesday night on the Dana Center's Barbara Stevens Court.
Â
Bentley slipped to 1-3 overall with its second straight conference loss. Adelphi, which outshot the Falcons 50-43 percent, improved to 3-2 overall and 1-1 NE10.
Â
Four players scored in doubles for each team with Bentley's quartet including graduate guard
Aaron Latham (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury HS) and junior guard
Cash McClure (Readfield, Maine/Maranacook HS). They each finished with 13, and were followed by juniors
Joe Carroll (Cedar Grove, N.J./Don Bosco Prep HS) and
Luke Britton (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs HS), each with 11.
Â
A 16-4 first half run produced the Falcons' biggest lead of the night, 26-20, with about six minutes remaining on the clock. Nine of the 16 came from the bench, including five by Britton.
Â
The Panthers were up four at the break, 40-36, after answering the Falcon surge with a 20-10 run of their own.
Â
After Bentley twice took a one-point lead early in the second, Adelphi used three triples and a traditional three-point play to go up 55-47 with 14 minutes to play.
Â
The Falcons closed within three with 1:32 left, following a Latham drive, but were blanked the rest of the way.
Â
Many of the statistics were close, including 11 three-pointers for both team, but Adelphi had the shooting advantage, 50-43 percent, and only committed seven turnovers, three less than Bentley.
Â
The Falcons will return to action Saturday at the College of Staten Island.
