Thakkar accepts position at Davidson; Scarpa '17 named Bentley's interim head coach

WALTHAM, Mass. – After two years at the helm of the Bentley football program, Saj Thakkar is stepping down to accept the head coach position at Davidson College, an NCAA Division-I program in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).

CJ Scarpa '17 has been named the interim head football coach for Bentley. A former Bentley quarterback, Scarpa was Bentley's offensive coordinator in 2023 and 2024. The Falcons ranked second in the NE10 for total offense in each of those seasons.

Thakkar led Bentley to an overall 14-6 record between 2023 and 2024. The 2023 season finale at New Haven was for the Northeast-10 title, where the Falcons came up just short (24-17).

Bentley landed the NE10 Most Valuable Player in both 2023 and 2024. Linebacker Salvatore Lupoli Jr. won the honor last year, and wide receiver Rashon Bradford won the honor this year.

Before Bentley, Thakkar spent five seasons (2018-22) as the running backs coach at Harvard and three years (2015-17) on the staff at SUNY Maritime. A search will be launched soon to select a new permanent head coach for Bentley.
