WALTHAM, Mass. – Three different players scored and
Nicholas Bevilacqua made 22 saves for his first career NCAA shutout as Bentley blanked Canisius 3-0 to earn a sweep of its first Atlantic Hockey series of the season.
The Falcons scored once in each period, with
Kellan Hjartarson scoring in the first period,
Colton Cameron in the second period and
Stephen Castagna in the third frame.
Bevilacqua slammed the door shut on the Golden Griffins all night to earn the shutout and his second win of the weekend. Combined with Friday's 4-1 win, he posted a .980 save percentage in the two games.
Hjartarson's goal at 9:11 of the first period put the Falcons in front. The goal came after a shot by
Owen Goodbrand was blocked in front of the net and Hjartarson swooped in to collect the rebound and score.
At 15:34 of the second period Cameron's second goal of the year made it 2-0. A shot by
Arlo Merritt from the left faceoff circle went wide of the net and ricocheted off the boards to the front of the net, where Cameron was waiting on the far post to score off the rebound.
With 47 seconds left in the game, Castagna capped off a big weekend with his third goal of the season to ice the game.
Bentley (2-3, 2-0 AHA) will next play at Mercyhurst.
