ERIE, Pa. – All three of Bentley's goals were scored by freshmen as
Owen Goodbrand had two and
Alec Leonard one as the Falcons defeated Mercyhurst 3-1 for its third straight victory on Friday night.
Goodbrand, from Waterdown, Ontario, scored his first NCAA goal at 13:46 of the first period to give Bentley a 1-0 lead.
Leonard, a defenseman from Toronto, scored his first collegiate goal 52 seconds into the third period to put the Falcons in front 2-1.
Goaltender
Nicholas Bevilacqua made 22 stops to earn his third consecutive win.
Goodbrand added an empty net goal with 1:29 remaining to seal the win.
Bentley took a 1-0 lead on Goodbrand's first of the night. A shot from the point by defenseman
Colton Cameron was blocked in front of the net but Goodbrand collected the rebound on the far post for the goal.
Mercyhurst tied the game late in the 1
st period and neither team scored in the second period.
Just 52 seconds into the third period, Leonard put Bentley back in front with a one-timer from above the face-off circles.
Stephen Castagna had the pass which Leonard one-timed for the goal.
Goodbrand then finished off the victory with an empty-netter.
Bentley improved to 3-3 overall and 3-0 in Atlantic Hockey. They will look to compete the series sweep on Saturday.
