ERIE, Pa. – Seven different players scored and freshman goalie
Lukas Swedin earned his first NCAA win as Bentley hockey defeated Mercyhurst 7-2 on Saturday to sweep its second straight series.
The Falcons wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard as freshman Márton Nemes scored his first NCAA goal just 31 seconds into the game. Two quick passes by
Kellan Hjartarson and
Stephen Castagna along the boards found Nemes out in front for the finish.
At the 4:05 mark, defenseman and Waltham native
Pat Lawn gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead after he snapped off a wrist shot from the top of the right faceoff circle.
Owen Goodbrand capped the explosive first period with his third goal of the weekend with 58 seconds remaining.
In the second period, a power play goal by Castagna made it 4-0 at the 4:04 mark after he tipped-in a shot from
Jack Dalton that came from the blue line. The goal was Castagna's fourth of the season.
Arlo Merritt scored on the power play at 10:51 of the second frame to make it 5-1, assisted by
Dylan Cook and
David Helledy. Bentley's sixth goal of the night came at 13:52 of the second from
Jake Black even strength, assisted by Castagna and
Michael Mesic.
Cook finished the scoring with 17 seconds left in the game, with Mesic on the assist.
Bentley is off to a 4-0 start in Atlantic Hockey with sweeps of Mercyhurst and Canisius last weekend. They next play Army West Point at home on Friday to begin a home and home series.
