WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley extended its unbeaten streak to five with a 3-3 tie against Army West Point on Friday night. The Black Knights won the shootout 1-0.
The Falcons continued their hot stretch on the power play with a 2-4 night, with the goals scored by
Kellan Hjartarson and
Chase Davis.
Bentley took a 1-0 lead late in the first period on
Michael Mesic's third goal of the season, assisted by
Jake Black and
Tobias Larsen. Army, which outshot Bentley 15-5 in the first period, tied it late in the period on a goal by Nils Forselius.
The Falcons outshot Army 34-16 the rest of the way.
Trailing 2-1, Hjartarson tied it for Bentley with just six seconds left in the second frame.
Stephen Castagna won a battle for the puck behind the boards and found Black in the left faceoff cirlce, who centered a pass to Hjartarson for the goal in front of the net.
Davis gave Bentley a 3-2 lead at 4:28 of the third period when he tipped-in a shot by defenseman
David Helledy.
Army though took advantage of a 4-on-3 and tied the game 3-3 from Barron Woodring at the 8:48 mark.
Both teams had their chances over the remainder of regulation and overtime but neither team scored.
That sent the game to a shootout, which Army won in the fourth round on a goal by Forselius.
Falcons goalie
Nicholas Bevilacqua made 28 saves and Army's JJ Cataldo made 36 stops.
These teams will meet in West Point on Sunday at 2:00 pm for the series finale.
