Bentley Gets the Better of Army 3-2 to Win Series

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Bentley hockey extended its unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-1) with a 3-2 victory on Sunday at Tate Rink to win the weekend series.

The Falcons took four of six points from the two games this weekend after Friday's game was a 3-3 tie and a shootout defeat.

Three different players lit the lamp, one in each period, Chase Davis, Oskar Bakkevig and Owen Goodbrand.

Freshman goaltender Lukas Swedin made 20 saves to earn his second win in as many starts.

Davis gave Bentley a 1-0 lead at 15:49 of the 1st period with his second goal of the weekend. On the power play, Arlo Merritt found Davis on the left faceoff dot for a shot that got under the pads of Army goalie JJ Cataldo.

The Falcons went up 2-0 when Bakkevig scored an even strength goal at 8:45 of the 2nd. Jack Dalton found him open on the left faceoff dot and Bakkevig snapped off a shot that got through two Army players and beat Cataldo to the top shelf for the goal.

Leading 2-1 early in the third period, freshman Owen Goodbrand's fourth goal of the year made it 3-1 with a quick wrist shot after taking a pass from behind the goal from Ryan Upson.

Army's Nick Hong made it a 3-2 game by scoring his second of the afternoon with 1:39 remaining.

Cataldo was pulled for the extra attacker with 1:30 remaining. In the final 30 seconds, Upson came up with two key blocked shots to preserve the win, including one on the final possession.

Bentley (5-3-1, 5-0-1 AHA) will next play on Friday at home against Alaska-Anchorage.
