CALDWELL, N.J. – Chase Clarke notched a double-double, and
Osiris Nalls scored 17 points off the bench, but the No. 24 Bentley men's basketball team started its 2025-26 season with a 93-89 overtime loss against Dominican (N.Y) Friday afternoon. Caldwell hosted the game as part of the CACC/NE10 Challenge.
Bentley (0-1) overcame a 10-point deficit with less than three minutes left in regulation to force overtime. The Chargers (1-0) held an 80-70 lead when a 3-pointer by
Mantas Zilys cut the Bentley deficit to seven points with 2:54 on the clock.
Moments later, Nalls came up with a steal and
Ivan Misic was fouled. Misic knocked down both free-throws to make it an 80-75 game.
With just over two minutes left in regulation, Dominican made one of two free-throw attempts. Quickly after the missed free-throw, Nalls made a jumper to bring the Falcons to within 81-77 with 1:58 remaining in regulation.
The Bentley defense held the Chargers scoreless in their ensuing possession, and Nalls kept a hot hand. Â This time his jumper made it a one-possession game, 81-79, with just under one minute left on the clock.
Nalls then swiped his second steal in as many minutes. The Falcons quickly got the ball into Clarke's hands, and he scored in the paint to tie the score, 81-81.
Dominican called a timeout with 33 seconds left, but it failed to score the go-ahead basket.
Jordan Elliott blocked a shot, and Nalls corralled the loose ball.
Nalls pushed the ball up the floor and hit yet another clutch shot, giving Bentley an 83-81 lead with five seconds left.
However, the Chargers answered with two points at the buzzer to force overtime.
Dominican scored in the paint for its first two possessions of overtime, taking an 87-83 lead. Misic provided the answer with consecutive buckets of his own, tying the game 87-87 with 3:15 left in the extra period.
The Chargers reclaimed the lead, 89-87, in their next possession, and their advantage was 91-87 with 1:43 remaining.
Clarke scored in the paint to bring Bentley to within 91-89, but that bucket stood as Bentley's final points of the game.
The Falcons aim to bounce back at Caldwell Saturday, Nov. 14, at 5 p.m.
