Bentley Knocks Off Top Seed Assumption to Advance to NE10 Finals

WORCESTER, Mass. – #4 seed Bentley knocked off the #1 seed Assumption 3-1 on Friday night in the NE10 Field Hockey Championship semifinals to setup a showdown with Saint Anselm in the championship game on Sunday.

The Falcons scored three unanswered goals in the second, third and fourth quarters to pull away for the win and advance to the finals for the first time since 2009.

Assumption, ranked #8 nationally, took the lead in the first quarter with 2:50 remaining on a goal by Elle Murray, but from that point on were shutout.

Gracie Moore tied it with 3:54 left in the 2nd quarter with her 13th goal of the season, off a penalty corner by Lindsey Jacobs and also assisted by Nina Husak.

A penalty corner led to the go-ahead goal, scored by Nicole Hartz with 3:25 left in the third quarter.

Hartz sent the corner to the top of the circle to Gracie Moore, who played a give-and-go with Isabella Tuccio. Moore then slid a pass on the cage that Tuccio knocked in for the goal.

Moore then scored the insurance goal with 8:12 remaining.

A penalty corner again led to the goal. Sent in by Jacobs to Nina Husak, who then slid a pass across the circle to Moore, who fired a shot to the near post for the goal.

Bentley then closed out the remaining eight-plus minutes to set the championship game against Saint Anselm.

Annie Lorenz made eight saves to earn the win and the Falcons improved to 13-7 on the season.
