WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University is saddened to learn of the recent passing of Al Harrington, a 1992 inductee into Bentley's Athletic Hall of Fame.
A member of the Bentley coaching staff for a decade beginning in 1967, Harrington filled a number of roles during his tenure, including serving as assistant athletic director, assistant men's basketball coach, intramural director and head tennis coach.
The basketball team was 179-73 during his time on the bench and he helped recruit a dozen 1,000-point scorers.
In the late 1970s, Harrington accepted the position of athletic director for the Nashua School District, a role he held with distinction until his retirement in 2001. During his tenure, he presided over one of the most celebrated eras in Nashua athletics. Among his many accomplishments were the establishment of the school's first weight room, the founding of the Friends of NHS Athletics, and the development of summer programs in collaboration with Parks and Recreation.
Harrington will posthumously be inducted into the Nashua Athletics Hall of Fame this spring, an honor announced prior to his passing.
A time of visitation will be held on Friday, April 11 from 4pm – 7pm in the Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Ferry Street in Hudson, N.H. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10am in St. Patrick Church, 29 Spring Street in Nashua. All are asked to please meet at church.
