WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Bentley saw its four-game winning streak snapped in a 16-6 defeat on the road to New Haven in a matchup of nationally ranked squads.
The Falcons came in with four straight games in the win column and six out of the last seven. They fall to 7-4 overall and 4-2 in Northeast 10 games.
Two New Haven players, Helena Dunwoody and Katie Schenk each tallied six goals on the afternoon.
Shots on goal were almost even with a 17-15 edge for New Haven, but Chargers goalie Madeline Sage made 10 saves.
Bentley scored the game's first goal off the stick of Nat Dutkewych 1:10 into the game. The Chargers didn't get their first goal until the 7:46 mark, but scored five goals before the end of the quarter to take a 5-1 lead after the first 15 minutes.
Bentley went on a 3-0 run to trim the deficit to 5-4, with the goals coming from
Caitlin Keenan and two from
Amanda Davis. Davis' second goal came with 10:26 left in the second frame.
Schenk scored at the 9:22 mark of the second quarter and that was the final tally for either team in the first half.
The Falcons weren't able to score again until the 8:09 mark of the 4
th quarter, when
Maeve Johnson scored the 200
th goal of her career. That came just four days after she broke the program record for career goals in Tuesday's victory over Saint Michael's.
During the scoring drought the Chargers went on a 10-0 run and opened up a 15-4 lead.
Bentley will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they visit Franklin Pierce.
