WALTHAM, Mass. – Former Bentley University women's basketball standout
Maggie Whitmore (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) has been named one of three finalists for the Northeast-10 Conference Woman of the Year award.
The NE10 Woman of the Year award honors student-athletes for their excellence in competition, in the classroom and in the community. The announcement of award recipients will be made the night of Tuesday, June 3, as part of the NE10 Banquet at Fratello's Events in the Millyard in Manchester, N.H.
Of the primary criteria, Whitmore certainly hits them all. On the court, she helped Bentley to four straight Northeast-10 tournaments championships, this past season's NE10 regular season title, the 2025 NCAA Division II Elite Eight and a share of the 2023-24 NE10 regular season championship. During her four years on the court, the two-time team captain helped the Falcons to a 100-27 record.
Whitmore, who was named a WBCA Division II All-America in March, averaged 12.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists during her final collegiate season. Her career totals, in 125 games, included 1,465 points, 781 rebounds and 263 assists.
Whitmore has donated much of her time to community events, including clothing and food donation drives, the Walk to End Alzheimer's, coordinated fundraising opportunities for the RACE Cancer Foundation, and organized and ran a youth basketball clinic for a Boys & Girls Club. Many of those were done in collaboration with her teammates.
Whitmore has been recognized as the Northeast-10 Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence award winner for women's basketball each of the last year. She was a standout in the classroom as a management major before graduating Magna Cum Laude in May 2024, and has continued to excel while pursuing her MBA in leadership.
The other finalists are Aino Martikainen (Franklin Pierce women's soccer) and Krista Dietz (Pace field hockey).
