FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Bentley earned an extra point in the Atlantic Hockey standings after a 2-0 shootout win over Sacred Heart on Saturday night. The game ended in a 4-4 tie.
Dylan Cook and
Michael Mesic scored in the first two rounds of the shootout and goalie
Lukas Swedin stopped both Sacred Heart attempts to give Bentley two points in the standings from this game.
Regulation saw both teams score three unanswered goals.
Bentely jumped out to a 2-0 lead after goals by Marton Nemes and Mesic that came 1:27 apart late in the 1
st period. The goal by Mesic was his eighth of the season and fourth game in a row with a goal.
The lead became 3-0 at 3:42 of the 2
nd period when
Peter Kramer notched his first career goal after jamming home a rebound off a shot by
Chase Davis.
Following Kramer's goal, Sacred Heart chipped away at Bentley's lead, starting with a goal by Ray Fust 40 seconds later.
The Pioneers netted goals at 10:41 and 15:44 of the second period to tie the game 3-3.
Just before the midway point of the third period,
Ryan Upson put Bentley back in front with his first tally of the season, assisted by
Kellan Hjartarson and Nemes.
The lead was short lived however as SHU's Felix Trudeau scored 1:38 later to tie the game 4-4.
That was the last goal of regulation and overtime and the game went to a shootout, which Bentley is now 2-1 on the season in.
Overall Bentley is now 12-7-3 and 11-2-3 in Atlantic Hockey. They next play on Friday at home against Princeton.
