Falcons top Princeton 4-1 as special teams excel

WALTHAM, Mass. – In front of a big home crowd for the first home game of the spring semester, Bentley defeated Princeton 4-1 on Friday night.

Special teams played a big role in the win as the Falcons scored two power play goals. The penalty kill came up with several big stops, including on a five-minute power play for Princeton in the third period.

Michael Mesic scored two goals in the third period to extend his streak to five straight games with a goal.

He notched a power play goal 1:31 into the third period to break a 1-1 tie after hammering home a centering pass from Stephen Castagna.

Just 44 seconds later, Marton Nemes fired in a goal to make it 3-1, with Chase Davis and Tobias Larsen on the assists.

Mesic then cliched the victory with an empty goal from near the blue line with 1:59 left.

Jake Black had an assist on Mesic's power play goal to extend his points streak to six games.

Sophomore goalie Nicholas Bevilacqua made 22 saves to earn his fifth win of the season. He helped the PK go 4-5 on the night.

Bentley took a 1-0 lead at 6:31 of the first period on a power play goal by Arlo Merritt, assisted by Chase Davis.

The Falcons improved to 13-7-3 on the season in getting the win in a matchup of two teams that received votes in this week's USCHO poll.

Bentley will go for the series sweep in game two on Saturday at 6:00 pm.
