WORCESTER, Mass. – The No. 24 Bentley women's basketball team ignited the fourth quarter to beat Assumption, 59-55, Saturday afternoon. The win allowed the Falcons to (11-2, 7-0 NE10) remain unbeaten in the Northeast 10.
Less than a minute into the fourth quarter, the Falcons were in a 46-38 deficit. From there,
Cassidy Yeomans got in the paint and hit a layup that started an 11-2 run for the Falcons. The run culminated with a fastbreak bucket by
Kayana Armbrister that cut the Assumption (11-4, 4-4 NE10) lead to 48-47.
Bentley's defense eventually allowed the Falcons to pull in front. The Greyhounds held a 52-51 edge when they turned the ball over with 3:29 on the clock. Bentley capitalized with a
Cherish Bryant jumper in the paint, allowing the Falcons to take their first lead (53-52) since the second quarter. It wasn't the last time in the game Bryant got a clutch bucket.
With the game tied, 55-55, and one minute remaining in regulation, Bryant scored again in the paint. The Falcons got defensive stops down the stretch, and Yeomans hit free-throws to seal the win.
Byrant finished the game with 13 points – one shy of matching her season high.
Niya Morgen also totaled 13 points for Bentley, and Yeomans added 12.
Bentley forced Assumption into 18 turnovers, and it held the Greyhounds to 38.0-percent shooting from the floor.
The Falcons have another road game at Pace Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 5:30 p.m.
