Box Score PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The No. 21 Bentley women's basketball team overcame its worst shooting game of the season to beat Pace, 50-49, Wednesday evening. The Falcons (12-2, 8-0 NE10) shot a season-low 33.9-percent from the floor.
Niya Morgen led all players in scoring with 14 points, and
Julia Elie grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. It was Elie's second game this season with double-digit rebounds (10 vs. Holy Family, Dec. 21).
The Falcons took a 29-17 lead into halftime, but the Setters (6-11, 2-6 NE10) outpaced Bentley in the third quarter, 17-7. It was just the third time this season that Bentley was outscored in the opening 10 minutes of the second half.
The game was tied, 40-40, with six minutes left in the fourth quarter. Morgen broke that even score by hitting a 3-pointer, but Pace answered back with a trey. Morgen stayed hot with another triple to give the Falcons a 46-43 lead, and they stayed in front for the remainder of the game.
Bentley's advantage was 48-47 when Pace had possession with 11 seconds left.
Cherish Bryant came up with a huge steal for Bentley, and
Cassidy Yeomans was subsequently sent to the line. The senior captain knocked down both free-throws with five seconds on the clock.
As the final seconds ticked down, Pace was fouled while attempting a game-tying 3-pointer. The Setters made the first of two free-throw attempts, but the third attempt missed and
Kayana Armbrister came down with the rebound to secure the win.
Bentley returns home for its Alumni Game Saturday, Jan. 24. The Falcons tipoff against Adelphi at 1 p.m.
