Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bentley pours in 60 points in the second half during comeback win at St. Michael's

COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Bentley men's basketball team overcame an 11-point halftime deficit to beat Saint Michael's, 94-83, Tuesday night. The Falcons scored 60 points in the second half.

Bentley's deficit was 16 points, 50-34, early in the second half. The Falcons (13-3, 6-4 NE10) started to make some progress just before the first media timeout of the second half.

Chase Clarke scored in the paint to cut the Saint Michael's (13-7, 7-3 NE10) lead to 56-43. Following a couple of defensive stops, Cash McClure hit a 3-pointer to make it a 10-point game. Sensing the momentum beginning to shift, Saint Michael's called a 30-second time. The brief stoppage did little to slow down the Falcons.

Less than a minute after the timeout, Joe Carroll hit a 3-pointer to bring Bentley's deficit to single digits, 58-49. Despite numerous second-chance opportunities, the Purple Knights were unable to find the bucket that could possibly bring momentum back into their favor.

On the other end of the floor, Bentley couldn't miss. Cooper Farrall and McClure scored consecutive baskets to bring the Falcons to within five points, 58-53.

Carroll hit another 3-pointer that made it a two-point game, 60-58, with 11:54 on the clock. Following a Saint Michael's missed trey, McClure drilled a 3-pointer to give Bentley the lead, 61-60. Carroll kept a hot hand by making another 3-pointer to push the lead to 64-60.

The Falcons held the lead for the rest of the game.

Bentley's lead was just one point, 67-66, with 8:11 left in regulation. From there, Clarke made a layup, Bentley forced the Purple Knights into a turnover, and McClure made a 3-pointer. Just like that, the Bentley advantage was 72-66.

The Falcon lead reached double digits, 77-66, when Carroll hit a 3-pointer with 6:11 on the clock.

Carroll finished with a season-high 17 points off the bench. He made all five of his 3-point attempts. McClure scored 25 points – one shy of matching his season high. He also dished out eight assists. Farrall recorded his ninth double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 boards. Clarke added 11 points in the win.

In the second half, Bentley shot 73.3-percent (22-for-30) from the floor, and 75.0-percent (9-for-12) from 3-point range.

Bentley returns to the road to take on Southern Connecticut Saturday, Jan. 31, at 3:30 p.m.
