Bentley travels to Robert Morris to close out January

Kellan Hjartarson
WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley travels out to western Pennsylvania to take on the Robert Morris Colonials for an Atlantic Hockey series this weekend. Both games on Friday and Saturday get underway at 7:00 pm.

The Falcons played a non-conference series at home against Princeton last weekend and came away with a 4-1 win and 2-2 tie (plus a win in the shootout). That puts their record at 13-7-4 overall and earned them votes in this week's USCHO poll. With 14 votes, it was the fifth most of any team outside the top-20.

Entering the weekend, Bentley tops the AHA standings with 38 points from an 11-2-3 record. They lead RIT by six points and have played two fewer games than the Tigers. They lead Sacred Heart by eight points and Holy Cross by nine points and have played the same number of games.

This weekend is the start of three straight on the road. After this series, they begin a home and home series with Holy Cross in Worcester on February 6. After that game Bentley will play four straight at home, Feb. 7 against Holy Cross, Feb. 10 against Army and Feb.13-14 vs. Sacred Heart.

After this weekend, six of the final eight regular season games are on home-ice.

Jake Black has a seven-game points streak going, with six goals and seven assists. He's up to 10 goals and 12 assists on the season for 22 points. He's tied for the team lead in goals with Michael Mesic, and second in both assists and points to Mesic.

In the AHA, both Black and Mesic are tied for fourth in goals. Mesic is fourth in points and Black is seventh.

Freshman goalie Lukas Swedin continues to lead the league in both goals against average (2.07) and save percentage (.927).

The most recent games between Bentley and RMU were in February of last season in Waltham, with the Falcons sweeping the series by scores of 1-0 and 6-0. The last time Bentley visited RMU was in late October of the 2023-24 season and the teams split.

The all-time series has the Colonials slightly ahead at 21-19-4.
