Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Black scores a hat trick, while Bevilacqua shuts out Robert Morris

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Jake Black recorded his first hat trick as a Falcon, and Nicholas Bevilacqua needed 24 saves for his second shutout of the season as the Bentley hockey team beat Robert Morris, 5-0, Friday night.

Black has been on an absolute tear for the Falcons (14-7-4, 12-2-3 AHA). The senior extended his points streak to eight games, and he has 11 goals in the last 11 games.

Kellan Hjartarson assisted on four goals against Robert Morris (7-17-2, 7-10-1 AHA), while Stephen Castagna and Alec Leonard both recorded a goal and an assist.

Black's first goal of the game came just moments after Bentley killed a Robert Morris power play. Castagna carried the puck up the middle of the ice into the offensive zone, and he made a sharp pass to Hjartarson to his left. Hjartarson didn't hesitate when he snapped a pass across the front of the goal, with Black diving in from the right side to bury the puck for a 1-0 lead.

Black's second goal really highlighted his individual skill. He was left alone with the puck below the faceoff circle, but he was out wide at a nearly impossible angle. Still, Black fired a shot over the shoulder of the RMU goalkeeper to light the lamp.

Finally, Black sealed the hat trick with a power play goal in the third period. His one-timer from the left side gave Bentley a 4-0 lead 5:33 into final period.

Black has a team-leading 13 goals this season, and his 12 assist add up to a team-leading 25 points.

On the other end of the ice, Bevilacqua's goals-against average dropped to 1.37 for the season.

Bentley and Robert Morris close out the weekend series Saturday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m.
