NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman
Yasmin Tonon totaled a season-high 15 kills to lead the Bentley volleyball team to a 3-1 (27-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-18) win at Southern Connecticut Friday evening. Bentley's winning streak is up to 14 matches.Â
Tonon saw a season-high 39 total attempts against the Owls (13-6, 4-2 NE10). Her previous season highs were 11 kills (vs. Molloy, Sept. 12) and 28 total attempts (vs. Palm Beath Atlantic, Sept. 5). Tonon also finished Friday's match with 12 digs, marking her first career double-double.
Fellow freshman
Makayla Kuykendall had a season-high 24 digs against SCSU, easily surpassing her previous high of 18 (vs. Central Missouri, Aug. 28). Kuykendall was one of four Falcons with double-digit digs Friday.
Yet another freshman was pivotal in the Bentley (15-6, 4-0 NE10) win over the Owls.
Aaliyah Price Gooden notched six blocks and nine kills while attacking at a .500 clip.
Junior
Tory Vitko totaled 45 assists in the win. It was her fifth match this season reaching at least 40 assists. Vitko also contributed 10 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. Fellow junior
Sophia Poehlein came away with her fourth double-double of the season by putting away 12 kills and coming up with 12 digs.
In a rematch of the 2025 NE10 Semifinals, neither Bentley nor SCSU led by more than two points in the opening set. Consecutive errors by the Owls at the very end of the stanza allowed Bentley to win the opening set, 27-25.
The Falcons won the second set, 25-18, and appeared to be on their way to a sweep. However, the Owls forced a fourth set. Bentley jumped out to a 14-6 lead in that fourth frame, but SCSU went on an 8-0 to tie it up, 14-14. A kill by Tonon shifted momentum back into Bentley's favor, as it started an 11-4 run to close out the match.
Bentley returns home to host Assumption Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m.
