Cagno scores with 38 seconds left to give Bentley 2-1 win over St. Michael’s

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Senior Michael Cagno scored with 38 seconds left to give Bentley a dramatic 2-1 road win over Saint Michael's on Wednesday.

The Falcons trailed 1-0 after a penalty kick goal by the Purple Knights in the 58th minute, but erased the deficit with a goal by Logan Veloria in the 74th minute and followed by Cagno's late winner.

The winning goal came off a throw-in by Matt McAuliffe in Bentley's attacking end. A long throw by McAuliffe into the penalty area was headed back towards the goal by Owen MacKinnon, where Cagno was waiting on the door step to poke home the goal.

The Falcons earned a crucial three points in the NE10 standings and improved to 4-3-1 in conference games and 6-5-3 overall.

A scoreless first half gave way to the Purple Knights taking a 1-0 lead on a PK goal by Sean Hendrie. But in the 74th minute, Veloria's fourth goal of the year knotted the game 1-1. The goal started with a free kick by McAuliffe, who found Michael Gouvin open on the right wing. Gouvin sent a long cross into the box where Veloria was open for a volleyed finish from six yards out.

Bentley now turns its attention towards the regular season finale, which is at home on Saturday against Southern Connecticut. Kick off is at 1:00 pm.
