WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore defenseman
Alec Leonard scored the go-ahead goal with 11:52 left in the third period as Bentley defeated Holy Cross at home 4-3 for a series split.
Leonard's shot from just inside the blue line, after taking a cross-ice pass from
Ryan Mansfield, found its way to the back of the net just as a power play expired to give the Falcons a 4-3 lead.
Bentley came up with a big penalty kill that began with 4:51 remaining in the contest to keep the one goal lead. They then denied Holy Cross for the final 53 seconds with the extra-attacker on to secure the win.
Holy Cross took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Jack Larrigan just 4:14 into the contest. They held that lead for a little over nine minutes, but then Bentley quickly surged ahead with three goals in less than three minutes.
James Duerr struck first, scoring off his own rebound down low to tie the score at 13:55.
Then 38 seconds later,
Dylan Cook scored in front with a one-timer after taking a feed from
Jimmy Doyle in the corner.
The third goal of the run came from freshman defenseman
Ephram McNutt, who notched his first NCAA goal at 16:27 with a shot from below the left faceoff dot.
Colton Cameron and
Oskar Bakkevig had the assists.
Falcons goalie
