MANCHESTER, N.H. – Bentley outscored Southern New Hampshire 3-1 in the second half to defeat the Penmen 4-2 in the final regular season game of the season.
Second half goals by
Sheila Mullins,
Makenzie Dutch and
Nina Husak turned a 1-1 game at halftime into a 4-2 victory.
Bentley finished the regular season with two straight wins for a 5-4 record in Northeast 10 games. They will begin the conference playoffs in the opening round on November 10, with the opponent and location to be determined on Friday.
An early goal by SNHU's Zoe Demers gave the hosts a 1-0 lead that stood until the midway point of the second quarter.
That's when Bentley's
Isabella Tuccio tied it with her second goal of the year, assisted by
Madeline Krepelka.
The score remained 1-1 into the second half, until Mullins put the Falcons in front. Mullins got the goal started with a run into the shooting circle and passed to
Sophie Manchester who had a shot saved. But Mullins jumped on the rebound and lifted a shot into the back of the cage for the goal.
The Penmen would tie the score six minutes later on a goal by Sophie Bilodeau, but that was their final tally of the night.
With 1:56 remaining in the third quarter, Dutch put the Falcons ahead for good with her second goal of the year.
Husak provided the insurance goal for a 4-2 lead with 4:07 remaining in the game.
The goal came off a penalty corner that was sent in by
Emily Stagnone to the top of the circle. Husak fired off a low shot that got through traffic and into the back of the cage for her second of the season.
Goalkeeper
Annie Lorenz earned the win, her sixth of the season.
