Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Late goals push RIT past Bentley 3-0

WALTHAM, Mass. - RIT scored three goals in the final 1:16 to defeat Bentley 3-0 and split the weekend series with the Falcons.

Matthew Wilde, who had five goals in the series, scored the go-ahead goal with 1:16 remaining to break a 0-0 deadlock that lasted the entire game to that point.

Bentley was whistled for a tripping penalty with 3:28 remaining and they successfully killed off the power play as overtime for a second straight night looked like a possibility.

But just 12 seconds after the power play ended, RIT scored the go-ahead goal off the stick of Wilde.

After a faceoff win in the offensive zone, a shot along the boards above the right faceoff dot found its way to the back of the net with Falcons goalie Easton Rye screened in front.

RIT's Christian Catalano made it 2-0 25 seconds later, and Wilde added an empty net goal with 25 seconds left.

Through two periods it was a scoreless game as both netminders kept the other team off the scoreboard.

Rye had 16 saves through 40 minutes and RIT's Jakub Krbecek stopped 15 Bentley shots.

It was a clean game through the first two periods with just one penalty for each side.

Rye ended the night with 28 saves and Krbecek made 19 saves.

Through six games of the Atlantic Hockey schedule, Bentley's record stands at 4-2, and 5-5 overall.

Their next series is at Air Force and gets underway on Thursday.
