WALTHAM, Mass. –
Oliver Salo scored 1:53 into overtime to give Bentley a 4-3 victory over Army West Point on Tuesday night.
With the teams skating 3-on-3 in overtime, defenseman
Garrett Horsager skated through the neutral zone and dropped off a pass to Salo to enter the offensive zone. Salo then skated down the right wing with speed, swooped behind the net and beat Black Knights goalie JJ Cataldo to the spot with a wraparound for the winning goal.
Bentley led this game 3-0 but had to withstand three unanswered goals by Army to come away with the win.
The Falcons scored two goals 30 seconds apart midway through the first period to take a 2-0 lead. Defenseman
David Helledy scored at the 13:10 mark after he drove in hard on the net and beat Cataldo with a shot under the pads.
That was followed by
Jake Black scoring his first of two goals on the night, after
Kellan Hjartarson found him with a pass from just in front of the goal.
Black made it 3-0 with his 15
th of the year at 5:10 of the second period. Hjartarson again had the primary assist.
Army though began to battle back with a power play goal by Jack Ivey at 16:53 of the 2
nd period.
After cutting the lead to 3-2, Army tied it with just 2:22 remaining on a goal by Ben Ivey with an extra-attacker on the ice.
Bentley's penalty kill kept the game tied for the remainder of regulation after a penalty for an unsuccessful challenge on the goal.
That led to overtime where Salo's goal gave Bentley the win and two points. They improved to 16-8-5 overall and 14-3-4 in Atlantic Hockey.
