Doran scores career-high 19 points as No. 19 Bentley outlasts AIC, 64-60

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Brennan Doran scored a career-high 19 points, and the No. 19 Bentley women's basketball team fended off a comeback bid by American International to beat the Yellow Jackets, 64-60, Wednesday evening. The win allows Bentley (17-3, 13-1 NE10) to remain in first place in the Northeast 10.

Doran shot 7-for-9 from the floor, and she made seven of her nine free-throw attempts. Her previous career-high in scoring was 13 points, which she achieved twice this season.

Julia Elie notched her fourth double-double of the season 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Kayana Armbrister added 13 points.

The Falcons held a double-digit lead at halftime, 39-29. The advantage reached 12 points when Doran scored the first bucket of the second half. However, not much went right for Bentley the third quarter. It took AIC (15-7 9-5 NE10) five minutes not only to wipe out Bentley's lead, but the Yellow Jackets claimed a 46-43 lead late in the quarter.

Cassidy Yeomans hit a 3-pointer to tie the game, 46-46, and Elie hit a free-throw in the final seconds of the period to give the Falcons a 49-48 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Doran got the scoring started again the fourth quarter, but the Falcons weren't finding it easy to pull away. The lead reached five points, 58-53, when Yeomans drained another 3-pointer with six minutes left in regulation.

Bentley's defense held AIC to just three points over the span of six minutes in the fourth quarter. The Falcons' lead didn't drop below three points following that Yeomans trey.

The Falcons shot just 27.3-percent from the floor in the third quarter, but they bounced back with a 57.1-percent mark in the game's final 10 minutes. Conversely, AIC shot 56.3-percent in the third quarter, but just 27.3-percent in the fourth.

Bentley returns home to celebrate its seniors Saturday, Feb. 14. Tipoff against Assumption is at 1 p.m.
