Bentley rebounds with 5-1 win over Sacred Heart

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley rebounded from Friday's defeat with a 5-1 victory over Sacred Heart on Saturday night at Bentley Arena.

The Falcons owned a 32-18 advantage in shots and scored in each period. They did the majority of their damage in the second period with three goals.

Sacred Heart actually scored the game's first goal, on the first shot of the game, 30 seconds into the contest off a tip-in by Ray Fust.

But from that point on Bentley smothered the Pioneers to improve to 15-4-4 in Atlantic Hockey and 17-9-5 overall. They are the first team in the league to reach 50 points in the standings this season.

Chase Davis scored the tying goal at the 7:00 minute mark of the first period, off a rebound from a shot by Jack Dalton.

Just past the midway point of the second period, Bentley scored twice in less than three minutes.

Defenseman Garrett Horsager lit the lamp at the 10:18 mark with a shot from a tight angle along the right wing. Then at the 13:52 mark, Kellan Hjartarson's sixth goal of the season made it 3-1. Hjartarson drove in on net and deked around the SHU goalie for a shot to the glove side.

With just three seconds left in the period, Stephen Castagna notched his 10th of the year, with a power play goal. A shot by Jake Black in the slot was saved but Castagna was there on the doorstep to score off the rebound.

In the third period, Owen Goodbrand made it 5-1 with 2:46 remaining. Sacred Heart initially thought they had a goal to cut the lead to 4-2, but an official's review determined Goodbrand scored earlier in the play with a wraparound.

Falcons goalie Nicholas Bevilacqua made 17 saves to earn his ninth win of the season.

Bentley next plays on February 21 for a single game at RIT.
