Bentley clinches Atlantic Hockey regular season title with 4-3 win at RIT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Bentley clinched the first Atlantic Hockey regular season title in program history on Friday night with a 4-3 win at RIT.

The Falcons will be the #1 seed in the upcoming Atlantic Hockey playoffs and will have home-ice throughout the postseason.

Bentley scored all four of its goals in the second period, with the goals by Stephen Castagna, Chase Davis, Arlo Merritt and Jake Black.

They led 4-2 at the end of the second period and throughout almost all of the third period, until RIT scored an extra-attacker goal with 49 seconds remaining. But Bentley was able to run out the remaining time to secure the victory.

The Falcons improved to 18-9-5 overall and 16-4-4 in Atlantic Hockey.

RIT jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after a goal by Christian Catalano 2:25 into the game.

The score stayed 1-0 until early in the second period when Castagna's 11th goal of the year tied it 49 seconds in.

Bentley then struck on the power play at the 7:05 mark when Davis lit the lamp to go in front 2-1.

Merritt made it 3-1 at the 11:06 mark before RIT broke the run with a power play goal at 14:20.

Black restored the two goal lead with his 16th of the season with 1:58 left in the second.

Lukas Swedin made 29 saves to earn the win.
