GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The No. 17 Bentley women's basketball team earned at least a share of the Northeast 10 Regular Season Championship when it beat Adelphi, 47-38, Saturday afternoon. The Falcons also locked in the program's 38
th season with at least 20 wins.
Bentley (20-3, 16-1 NE10) Â currently holds a one-game lead over Southern Connecticut (20-5, 15-2 NE10) in the NE10 standings. The Falcons can clinch the conference title outright when they host Southern New Hampshire Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 5:30 p.m.
The Falcons beat the Panthers (12-12, 6-11 NE10) despite posting their second-lowest scoring game of the season. Although Bentley struggled on the offensive end, the defense limited Adelphi to 26.4-percent shooting from the floor. That mark is the lowest field-goal percentage by a Bentley opponent this season.
Niya Morgen finished the game with 12 points and nine rebounds. She came up one rebound short of her second career double-double. Morgen's first career double-double was just one week ago against Assumption (10 points, 10 rebounds).
Brennan Doran stayed hot for Bentley, scoring 12 points to go with eight rebounds against Adelphi. She shot 4-for-6 from the floor, and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Through the first 18 games of the season, Doran was averaging 5.0 points per game. Over her last five games, however, Doran is averaging 13.6 points.
