WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Tate Fitzmaurice scored with 22 seconds remaining to give #15 ranked Bentley a 9-8 win over #14 Mercy in the season opener on Saturday.

Fitzmaurice's goal broke an 8-8 tie and gave Bentley the final lead of the afternoon in what was a back-and-forth game. There were seven ties and eight lead changes.

The largest lead of the game was just two goals when Bentley led 2-0 in the first quarter.

The fourth quarter started tied 5-5 but Mercy quickly jumped in front on a goal by Matthew Magyar.

The Falcons though responded quickly with two goals, by Charlie David and Harrison Murray, to take a 7-6 lead with 10:54 remaining.

The teams then traded the final four goals of the game. Falcons freshman Beckett Mehlhorn gave them an 8-7 lead with a man-up goal with 3:48 left, before Mercy's Cole Hunsberger tied it with 2:47 left.

The teams traded possessions and after a Mercy turnover and a Falcons timeout to setup the final possession, Fitzmaurice scored with 22 ticks left for the 9-8 lead.

Dante D'Amico won the next faceoff, one of his 15 wins on the day, and Bentley ran out the clock for the win.
