MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Bentley softball team dropped its first two games of the season Friday afternoon. The Falcons narrowly lost to East Stroudsburg, 1-0, in the first game. Bentley then lost to No. 23 Barry, 12-3 (6 inn.) in the second game. Barry hosted both contests.
Freshman pitcher
Taylor Zajac was stellar in her collegiate debut against East Stroudsburg. She allowed just one earned run in her six innings in the circle. That one run came in the fourth inning.
The Falcons had some good chances to push a run across the plate against East Stroudsburg. Bentley put runners on second third with two outs in the second inning, and in the fifth inning
Michelle Diaz led off with a double. Still, the Falcons were blanked.
In the following game against Barry, Bentley took advantage of its scoring opportunities. The Falcons' three-run rally in the second inning was started by
Maddie Baker drawing a walk.
Becca Harris and
Hailey Feiler both hit singles to load the bases with one out. Diaz then lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Baker to score the first run of the season.
Alexa Gross followed with an RBI single that allowed Harris to reach home plate as Feiler moved to third.
Feiler touched home plate just before Gross was caught stealing second base, accounting for Bentley's third run.
The Falcons stay in Florida for a doubleheader at Nova Southeastern Saturday, Feb. 7, at 12 p.m.
