Bentley finishes Florida trip with 10-6 win over No. 5 Saginaw Valley St.

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Bentley softball team concluded its season-opening trip to Florida in a big way Sunday, beating nationally-ranked No. 5 Saginaw Valley State, 10-6. Earlier in the day the Falcons lost to No. 23 Barry, 10-1. Barry hosted both games.

Becca Harris and Emma Callahan both drove in three runs in the win over Saginaw Valley. Harris finished the game 2-for-5 at the plate, and Callahan went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. Hailey Feiler produced a multi-hit game by going 2-for-4 in the win.

The Falcons were in a 4-0 deficit through three innings, but the comeback bid started in the fourth inning. Bentley loaded the bases with one out thanks to Callahan drawing a walk, and consecutive singles by Michelle Diaz and Feiler. Alexa Gross forced in a run by working a free pass. With the bases still loaded, Ella Bunovsky reached on a fielder's choice where an out was not recorded, and Diaz came in to touch home plate.

The next batter, Carly DiMento, drew a walk to force in another run and cut Saginaw Valley's lead to 4-3. From there, Harris delivered a two-run single to put the Falcons out in front, 5-4.

Bentley rallied for five more runs in the sixth inning. Feiler led off with a single, Bunovsky drew a walk, and DiMento hit a single to load the bases. Harris came with through with another RBI base hit that allowed Feiler to score. Bunovsky scored when Jess Morrison hit a single through the left side.

The bases remained loaded, but not for long. With a swing of the bat, Callahan's double down the left field line brought in all three Bentley base runners.

The Falcons' next games aren't until March. They travel to the Space Coast Complex in Melbourne, Florida for 10 games, March 7-12.
