MANCHESTER, N.H. – Bentley battled to the end against #2 nationally ranked Saint Anselm but fell 9-7 to the Hawks on Wednesday.
A man-up goal by
Brady Glass pulled the Falcons to within 9-7 with 1:54 remaining. Saint Anselm won the ensuing face but a caused turnover and ground ball by
Kyle Piersiak gave Bentley the ball back with 1:11 left.
Bentley though couldn't get a shot off on the next possession and the Hawks held on for the win.
It was a defensive battle throughout and both goalies played well.
Matt Barry made his first career start for Bentley and made 15 saves. Saint Anselm's Finn Granara made 11 stops.
Bentley's
Cam Brutus had a game-high three caused turnovers.
The Falcons scored the final goal of the third quarter and the opening goal of the fourth quarter to pull to within 6-5. The goals were scored by Glass and
Charlie David.
Saint Anselm responded with a 2-0 run to take an 8-5 lead with 12:59 to play. David scored again 48 seconds later to make it a two goal game at 8-6.
Bentley (3-5, 1-2 NE10) next plays on April 1 at Southern New Hampshire.
