Callahan homers twice, DiMento goes yard at AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Emma Callahan hit two home runs, and Carly DiMento also went yard, but the Bentley softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader at American International Saturday afternoon.

Bentley 6, AIC 9
The Falcons began Saturday's second game in a 3-0 deficit after the first inning. However, Carly DiMento got the Falcons on the board in the second frame. Bailey DeLeire led off the inning with a single, and she moved into scoring position on a groundout.

Carly DiMento's base hit allowed DeLeire to score Bentley's first run, and defensive miscues allowed DiMento to take third base. From there, DiMento and Alexa Gross ran a double steal that allowed DiMento to safely touch home plate.

Emma Callahan's first home run was a solo shot to lead off the fifth inning. The big swing cut Bentley's deficit to 9-3.

DiMento belted a solo home run with one out in the sixth inning. Later in the stanza, Callahan crushed a two-run homer.

Callahan finished the game 3-for-4, and DiMento went 2-for-2 with a walk.

Bentley 1, AIC 4
Taylor Zajac struck out five batters in a complete-game effort, but the Falcon's couldn't generate much offense in the first game Saturday.

Bentley's lone came in the fourth inning. Bella Burke hit a one-out double, and Michelle Diaz promptly followed with an RBI single.

The Falcons were unable to put a runner on base in the final three innings.

Bentley and AIC conclude their series with a doubleheader Sunday, April 12, at 12 p.m.
