WALTHAM, Mass. – Brendan Sencaj hit his ninth home run of the season, but the No. 18/21 Bentley baseball team lost to Assumption, 11-5, Wednesday afternoon.
With the scored tied 3-3 entering the bottom of the third inning,
Stan DeMartinis III led off by getting hit by a pitch. Sencaj next stepped to the plate, and he blasted an opposite-field home run to give Bentley (26-10, 18-5 NE10) a 5-3 lead.
The Falcons maintained momentum when
Curt Heath promptly followed by hitting a single.
Tommy Goonan then drew a walk, and
Jake Maydak hit a single to load the bases with one out. It appeared the Falcons were in for a big inning. Instead, the next two Bentley batters struck out to end the threat.
Getting out of the third inning relatively unscathed shifted momentum into Assumption's favor. The Greyhounds (9-24, 5-18 NE10) tied the game, 5-5, by scoring a run in the fourth inning and plating one more in the fifth.
Meanwhile, Bentley was held hitless from the fourth inning through the seventh. Assumption rallied for five runs in the eighth inning to effectively seal the win.
The Falcons have a couple days to shake off this loss before heading to Springfield for a four-game series at American International, April 18-19.
