Zajac goes the distance, Morrison homers in 6-1 win over Adelphi

WALTHAM, Mass. – Taylor Zajac allowed just one run in a complete-game effort, and Jess Morrison crushed her second home run of the season to lead the Bentley softball team to a 6-1 win over Adelphi Friday afternoon. The Falcons bounced back after losing the first game of the doubleheader, 10-0 (5 inn.).

Zajac picked up her seventh win after yielding just five hits during her 10th complete game of the season. She got out of a big bases loaded jam in the top of the sixth inning by recording her second strikeout of the game to end the threat.

Bentley took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Carly DiMento's double allowed Bella Burke to easily score from second base. Adelphi answered with a run in the second inning, but the Falcons reclaimed the lead in the third when Morrison led off with a home run to left field.

The Falcons added two runs in the fourth inning. Becca Harris and Breelin McDougal both hit singles, and they moved up a base when Alexa Gross put down a sacrifice bunt. Morrison followed with a base hit to score both runners for a 4-1 lead.

In the fifth inning, Harris hit a two-run single that drove in Emma Callahan and Burke.

Morrison, Burke, and Harris each collected two hits in the win.

DiMento got a hit in both games Friday, extending her hitting streak to seven games.

The Falcons and Panthers have another doubleheader Saturday, April 18, starting at 12 p.m.
