WALTHAM, Mass. – Taylor Zajac allowed just one run in a complete-game effort, and
Jess Morrison crushed her second home run of the season to lead the Bentley softball team to a 6-1 win over Adelphi Friday afternoon. The Falcons bounced back after losing the first game of the doubleheader, 10-0 (5 inn.).
Zajac picked up her seventh win after yielding just five hits during her 10
th complete game of the season. She got out of a big bases loaded jam in the top of the sixth inning by recording her second strikeout of the game to end the threat.
Bentley took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when
Carly DiMento's double allowed
Bella Burke to easily score from second base. Adelphi answered with a run in the second inning, but the Falcons reclaimed the lead in the third when Morrison led off with a home run to left field.
The Falcons added two runs in the fourth inning.
Becca Harris and
Breelin McDougal both hit singles, and they moved up a base when
Alexa Gross put down a sacrifice bunt. Morrison followed with a base hit to score both runners for a 4-1 lead.
In the fifth inning, Harris hit a two-run single that drove in
Emma Callahan and Burke.
Morrison, Burke, and Harris each collected two hits in the win.
DiMento got a hit in both games Friday, extending her hitting streak to seven games.
The Falcons and Panthers have another doubleheader Saturday, April 18, starting at 12 p.m.
