Game Recap: Softball |

Bentley's pitching dominates as Falcons clinch series win against Southern Connecticut

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Maddie Pickett earned two saves, and Bella Burke homered for the second time this week as the Bentley softball team won both ends of a doubleheader against Southern Connecticut Sunday. The Falcons won three of four games against the Owls this weekend.

Sophie Jorjorian struck out a season high eight batters during her five-inning start, and Maddie Pickett shut the door on Southern Conn. in two innings of relief.

The Falcons wasted little time in attacking the Owls, as they scored three runs in the first inning. Jess Morrison drew a leadoff walk, and she promptly stole second base. Morrison moved to third base when Bella Burke hit a single, and Burke swiped second base to give Bentley two runners in scoring position.

Carly DiMento drove in both runners by belting a triple to center field. DiMento later came in to score wen the SCSU second baseman committed an error.

Bentley tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning. Ella Bunovsky and Burke hit consecutive one-out singles. The pair scored when DiMento notched another two-run base hit.

DiMento finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBI, and Burke went 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored.

Taylor Zajac allowed only four hits through five shutout innings, and Maddie Pickett pitched two hitless innings as the Falcons blanked SCSU.

Bentley took a 1-0 in the first innings thanks to a couple of miscues by the Owls. With two outs on the board, Bella Burke was hit by a pitch. Michelle Diaz then lifted a fly ball that was dropped by the centerfielder. Burke was running the whole way and scored the first run of the game.

In the fourth inning, Becca Harris hit a one-out double, and she scored when Emma Callahan singled to center.

Burke's second home run of the season was a solo shot over the left-field fence. Her first career home run was just a few days ago when she hit a walk-off homer against Southern New Hampshire (April 22).

Bentley's regular season concludes with a four-game series at Pace, May 1-2.
