Eigenbrod was outstanding on the mound, but Molloy forced Game 3

WALTHAM, Mass. – Zach Eigenbrod put forth a herculean effort, but the No. 8 Bentley baseball team came up short against No. 17 Molloy, 1-0, Friday afternoon in the second game of the best-of-three NCAA East Super Regional series.

The two teams play a decisive third game Saturday, May 23, at Coach DeFelice Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. The winning team advances to the NCAA DII World Series in Cary, North Carolina.

Eigenbrod pitched a career-high 8.1 innings, allowing only two hits while striking out seven. A defining moment of his outing came in the sixth inning. The Lions had two runners on with one out, but Eigenbrod induced a fly out and then got out of the inning with a swinging strikeout. The sophomore, who rarely shows emotion during his starts, was all sorts of fired up walking off the mound in the sixth.

Molloy was the designated home team Friday – the type of advantage that greatly helps during a pitchers' dual. The Lions drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the ninth, and then stole second base. Following a strikeout, Molloy just barely pushed a base hit past a diving Tommy Bolton at shortstop to plate the game-winning run.

Bentley will return as the true home team Saturday, just as it was when the Falcons won first game of the series Thursday (May 21).
