CARY, N.C. –
Brendan Sencaj went yard during Bentley's first ever NCAA DII World Series game, but the #7 seeded Falcons lost to #2 Tampa, 13-2, Saturday night at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. Bentley faces elimination when it next takes on #3 Catawba Monday, June 1, at 1:30 p.m.
Sencaj's solo blast led off the top of the ninth inning when he launched an 0-1 pitch over the left-field fence.
Jake Maydak supplied the first DII World Series hit in Bentley history by ripping a single to left field to lead off the top of the third inning.
Bentley scored its first run of the game in the eighth inning.
Tommy Goonan and
Jimmy Mitchell drew consecutive one-out walks, and Goonan came in to score on
Jared Berardino's base hit.
Nick Pappas followed by drawing a walk to load the bases, but Bentley couldn't deliver that clutch two-out hit.
The Falcons loaded the bases again in the ninth inning following Sencaj's homer.
Parker Coleman was hit by a pitch, and once again the Goonan-Mitchell duo worked consecutive walks with one out on the board. Still, all three runners were left stranded.
Berardino finished the game 2-for-5 at the plate. He, Sencaj, Goonan, and Mitchell each reached base twice against Tampa.
