WALTHAM, Mass. – The No. 19 Bentley baseball team begins its Northeast 10 Championship run by taking on Pace Thursday, May 7, at 3:30 p.m. Bentley is the #2 seed, and Pace is the #6 seed. Top-seeded Southern New Hampshire is hosting the game.
Pace beat #3 Saint Anselm, 7-6, in the opening round of the NE10 Championship (May 5). #4 Adelphi is one of the four remaining teams after it beat Saint Michael's, 17-3, in the first round. With the four teams left, the remainder of the NE10 Championship is double elimination.
Bentley enters the postseason with a 36-13 overall record (28-8 NE10), marking the most single-season wins in program history. This year is the third consecutive season that the Falcons have achieved a new program record for wins.
The NE10 announced its All-NE10 teams today. The Falcons landed 11 conference honorees, including six on the All-NE10 First Team. Among that group is Bentley's all-time home run leader,
Stan DeMartinis III, and the program's all-time strikeout leader,
Pat Heber.
Last week in a win over Adelphi (May 1), DeMartinis clubbed the 44
th home run of his career, which was also his 20
th home run this season. That one swing of the bat broke both Bentley program records, which were previously held by head coach
Mike Hill.
Heber, a southpaw, broke the program strikeout record during a win over Southern Connecticut (April 3), surpassing the 229 strikeout mark held by Rob Finneran '12. Heber struck out a career-high 11 batters in that game.
The records achieved by this 2026 Bentley team don't stop there.
Nick Pappas currently leads the NE10 in runs scored, as his current total of 75 is the most in a single Bentley season. Pappas is also one hit away from matching
Brendan Sencaj's single-season record for total hits (86). Sencaj achieved the feat last year.
What's more,
Tommy Bolton is currently tied with Tim Zupkus '24 for the most walks drawn in a single season (44).
The Falcons begin their postseason ranked No. 2 in the East Region, while SNHU is ranked No. 3. Molloy is the top-ranked team in the region.
Bentley and Pace went head-to-head for four games in New York, March 27-29. The Falcons won three of those games. DeMartinis hit two home runs and drove in six runs that series, while
Tommy Goonan homered and knocked in six runs. Sencaj had five RBI to go with a home run in four games against Pace, and Berardino also homered that weekend. Heber pitched eight shutout innings with seven strikeouts against Pace.
As a team, Bentley finished the regular season tied for the conference lead in home runs (79). No conference pitching staff struck out more batters than the Falcons (441). Bentley pitchers also allowed the fewest walks (164) during the regular season.
