Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – The No. 19 Bentley baseball team won an instant classic when it beat No. 25 Southern New Hampshire, 3-2, during the double elimination round of the Northeast 10 Championship.
The Falcons are now one win away from hoisting the conference trophy. Bentley will face the winner of SNHU vs. Adelphi Saturday, May 9, at 12 p.m. The Penman and Panthers go head-to-head Friday evening for the right to play Saturday. Whereas the Falcons need just one win Saturday, their opponent will need two wins that day.
Zach Eigenbrod was sensational in his seven-inning start against the Penmen. He allowed just two earned runs and struck out nine batters.
Keegan Antelman locked down his fifth save of the season by pitching two shutout innings.
One day after becoming Bentley's single-season leader for total hits,
Nick Pappas delivered a huge two-run homer in the seventh inning. Bentley trailed 2-1 through six innings. The team's first two batters in the seventh were retired consecutively, but
Jared Berardino kept the inning alive by hitting a single. Pappas was the very next batter, and he launched the go-ahead homer run over the centerfield fence.
SNHU took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, and the Penmen held the Falcons off the scoreboard through the first five innings. Bentley broke through in the sixth.
Stan DeMartinis III led off with a base hit. He then reached third base when
Curt Heath smacked a double down the left-field line.
Jake Maydak next pulled a groundball to second base, deep to allow DeMartinis to score Bentley's first run.
