WALTHAM, Mass. – The Falcons may have needed a bit of a wakeup call, but they didn't hesitate to rise to the occasion. The Bentley volleyball team beat Saint Anselm, 3-1 (18-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-11), in a non-conference match in the Dana Athletics Center Saturday afternoon. The Falcons pushed their winning streak to nine following a quick turnaround from Friday night's win over Monroe.Â
Bentley (10-6) lost the first set by a decent margin, 25-18. The Falcons attacked at a -0.077 clip in that opening stanza, committing 13 errors to start the match.
However, Bentley attacked above a .300 mark in each of the following three sets – including .500 in the fourth and final set. The Falcons were in complete control in that fourth set, running out to a 14-1 lead.
Sophia Poehlein led all players in kills with 13, and
Tory Vitko had a match-high 43 assists.
Elena Coban totaled four blocks in only two sets on the court.
Overall, Saint Anselm (9-4) hit only .037 against Bentley. The Falcons held all three of their opponents this week to attack percentages below .100.
Bentley formally opens conference action at Assumption Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m.
