WALTHAM, Mass. - #9 Bentley fell in a 10-round shootout to Southern New Hampshire to drop its season opener 2-1 on Sunday.
Layla Conway scored for Bentley in the second quarter and Kim Dull scored for the Penmen in the third frame.
The Falcons scored five minutes into the second quarter on a penalty corner that was sent in by Lindsay Jacobs. An initial shot by
Makenzie Dutch was blocked but Conway scored off the rebound.
Neither team scored in the fourth quarter or in 20 minutes of overtime to send the game to a shootout.
SNHU's Zoe Demers gave the Penmen an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the first round. In the fourth round, Bentley's
Isabella Tuccio tied it up and neither team scored in the fifth round to send it to another set of five strokes.
SNHU took the lead on a goal by Julia Giampietro in the sixth round, and they went up by two on a goal by Dull on their next attempt.
Nicole Hartz got the Falcons to within one on their next attempt, but they weren't able to score on their final two attempts as the Penmen held on for the win.

Annie Lorenz stopped the Penmen on seven of their attempts in the shootout, plus an extra stroke attempt that resulted from a penalty.
Bentley outshot SNHU 16-4 overall and 7-1 in shots on goal.
Their next game is on Wednesday night at Saint Anselm.
