Ben Murphy was named Associate Head Coach on the Bentley hockey coaching staff on Sept. 12.

Muprhy returned to Bentley after spending three years at St. Lawrence in the ECAC as an assistant coach.

Murphy previously spent 10 seasons as an assistant coach on Ryan Soderquist's staff. During that time he helped recruit the program's first NHL Draft pick, seven of Bentley's 100-plus career points scorers, the program's leader in all major goaltending statistical categories, and the all-time leading scorer for defensemen in Bentley history. 

He graduated from the University of Maine in 2005 and played in 141 games over four years for the Black Bears. He helped them to the NCAA Tournament in each of his four years, and to the NCAA Championship game in 2002 and 2004. As a junior in 2004, he scored the game-winning goal in triple overtime of the Hockey East Championship game against the University of Massachusetts.

Prior to his first stint at Bentley, he was a graduate assistant coach at Castleton State College.
