Box Score WALTHAM, Mass. – For the second time in a week, the
Bentley University men's soccer team earned a draw with a
team ranked in the top-ten nationally. The Falcons battled No. 9
Southern New Hampshire to a scoreless draw on Tuesday afternoon in
a Northeast-10 match.
A week ago the Falcons took a point from No. 3 Franklin Pierce
and they did the same to the Penmen. Bentley's record goes to
8-2-4 overall and 5-1-4 in the NE-10, while Southern New
Hampshire's goes to 11-1-2 and 7-1-2.
The Falcons had scoring chances sprinkled throughout the game,
the best of which came in the 64th minute from freshman
Cody Osgood (Harvard, Mass./Bromfield School). Off
of a corner kick the ball found its way to Osgood, who whistled a
shot on net from 15 yards away through traffic that Penmen goalie
Jon Mayo barely saved before the ball crossed the goal line.
Another near miss came with just under three minutes left in the
first overtime, when senior Ryan Hatch (Haverhill,
N.H./Woodsville) beat Mayo to a loose ball and got a shot
off, but Mayo recovered in time to make the save.
Bentley's best chance to score in the first half came in
the 41st minute off a corner kick. Sophomore Brennan
DaCosta (San Diego, Calif./Westview) sent the kick into
the box and it went off the heads of two Bentley players to the
foot of junior Rasmus Christensen (Copenhagen,
Denmark/Gladsaxe Gymnasium), who rifled a shot that went
just high and wide.
Goalie Mike Nikiforov (Framingham,
Mass./Framingham) made seven save for the Falcons.
Bentley plays its final home game of the regular season on
Saturday against Merrimack at 11:00 a.m.
