OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Sophomore Riley
Rodgers (Hollis, N.H./Hollis Brookline) picked a good
time for his first career goal, scoring 8:50 into overtime as the
Bentley University men's soccer team posted a 2-1, non-conference
win over NYIT on Tuesday afternoon.
Rodgers scored unassisted, firing a shot from 20 yards out that
beat NYIT keeper Michael Doran for the win. It's the Falcons'
second win in three matches and extends their unbeaten streak to
three.
After a scoreless first half, NYIT grabbed the match's first
goal off the foot of Robeson Hilton 4:41 into the second half.
For the second straight match Bentley scored a late equalizer,
with sophomore Brennan
DaCosta (San Diego, Calif./Westview) converting a
penalty kick with just over two minutes left before full time.
Senior Mike
Nikiforov (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) made the
start in net, but junior Matt
Reynolds (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin) took over in
the second half and earned his second win of the season.
The Falcons improve to 4-1-1 overall, while NYIT drops to 1-4-1.
Bentley is back in action on Saturday afternoon against Le Moyne in
Syracuse, N.Y.
