Bentley Trounces Saint Michael's 8-0 in Heavy Rain

Box Score

WALTHAM, Mass. - Despite playing in heavy rain throughout much of the afternoon, Bentley University had its highest scoring game since 1990, putting in eight goals in an 8-0 romp over Saint Michael's on Tuesday in Northeast-10 men's soccer. Juniors Eric Ulmer (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury) and Matt Solomon (Avon, Conn./Avon Old Farms) each scored twice.

The Falcons extend their unbeaten streak to five with the win (3-0-2), and remain unbeaten in conference play at 2-0-2. Bentley's overall record now stands at 5-1-2. The Purple Knights' own four match unbeaten streak goes by the boards, and they fall to 5-2-2 overall and 2-1-2 in NE-10 play.

Senior Ryan Hatch (Haverhill, N.H./Woodsville) put Bentley on the scoreboard first just 95 seconds in. Hatch received a pass at the top of the box with plenty of space to work with and fired a shot on net that Saint Michael's keeper Logan Kingman saved. The rebound though spilled loose, allowing Hatch to crash the net and knock in his first goal of the season.

Senior Nicco Roffo (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) and Ulmer then combined to put the Falcons up two in the 16th minute. Roffo drilled a free kick from 30 yards away on net and Ulmer, unmarked, volleyed it in past Kingman.

The Falcons went up 3-0 in the 44th minute when sophomore Tyler Kahn (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Kellenberg) scored his first career goal.

Bentley continued to pour it on in the second half, as Solomon scored his first goal at Bentley just 1:27 after intermission to make it 4-0. Solomon entered the score sheet again in the 52nd minute when junior Chris Gardner (Skillman, N.J./Hun School) headed in his corner kick.

Senior Mike Lipsett (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) made it 6-0 in the 61st minute when he scored off a rebound from his own penalty kick that backup goalie Chad Chapman had saved.

Ulmer and Solomon netted their second goals of the game in the 67th and 88th minutes respectively to finish the scoring.

Bentley will put its unbeaten streak on the line on Saturday when they host Saint Rose at 12:00 p.m.
