Box Score WALTHAM, Mass. -- Sophomore Weston
Zeiner (North Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial HS) scored
twice, once in each half, as Bentley University improved to 2-0
with a 2-1 win over the University of New Haven in men's soccer
action Sunday afternoon at the Bentley soccer field. It was the
Northeast-10 opener for both clubs.
Zeiner's first goal of the season came in the 12th minute of the
contest as he knocked the ball into an open net after the goalie
came out to make a play. Eleven minutes later, New Haven (0-1-1,
0-1 NE-10) tallied the equalizer, on the second of the year by
freshman Gui Dos Santos (Bethel, Conn.).
It remained at 1-1 until Zeiner found the back of the net for
the second time, just 61 seconds after the halftime break ended. A
year ago, he was second on the team in scoring with five goals.
Graduate student Mike
Nikiforov (Framingham/Framingham HS) earned the
victory in net for the Falcons, making six saves. For New Haven,
junior Jonathan Creem (Naugatuck, Conn.) recorded eight stops.
New Haven had the edge in shots at 14-12, but Bentley had three
more shots on goal (10-7) and a huge advantage in corner kicks,
attempting nine, three times as many as the Chargers.
Bentley is off until Friday afternoon when it will play a 4:00
non-conference match at C.W. Post.
